Styles: Contemporary Jazz/Jazz Gospel/Jazz Fusion/Pop/R&B Bio: 410.484.4204 / Born and reared in Pensacola, Florida, Charles has been performing for audiences since the age of Three! His initial beginnings began in small Drum & Bugle Corps in the Pensacola and New Orleans area, and later developing his niche for drum set in Junior High and High School. His love for the disciplined approach to ensemble/marching percussion, lead him to the world renouned "Commandant's Own, U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, stationed at histroic Marine Barracks, 8th & I Sts., in our nations capitol. Charles' career garnered him much national and international acclaim not only as an outstanding Snare Drummer, but as an innovative composer/arranger and section leader for this world-class percussion section. His tour of duty also enabled him to expound on his talent for teaching as he was primary D&B percussion instructor, and later percussion department head for the critically acclaimed Armed Forces School of Music, in Little Creek, Virginia. While in Virginia, as a Marine Gunnery Sergeant, Charles performed with the Faculty Lab & Concert Bands, as well as serving as the primary percussion coordinator for the U.S. Naval Academy Drum & Bugle Corp. Upon leaving the Corps, Charles continued to grow in performance and in teaching as a Professor of Music in Washington, DC, at The George Washington University, Jazz Studies Department. Charles continue's to perform in the Baltimore/Washington area, as well as the East-Coast. Currently performing and recording in a variety of settings, from Contemporary Jazz Fusion, Gospel Jazz, Contemporary Pop, to Funk and R&B. Having gained much respect for his unique style and sensitive musical musical approach, Charles is an "In-Demand Drummer" in the national capital area. It would probably be a safe assumption after hearing Charles play, that his mentor's are the likes of Will Kennedy, Harvey Mason, Dave Weckl, Gadd, Vinne & Dennis all wrapped into the mind and heart of Charles Marvray! These guy's inspire him, but it's his connection with the Lord that spurs him on! Charles continues to perform and record with some of the finest musicians in the Baltimore Area, to include: "Sacred Groove"(cont.jazz/gospel) - "Kevin Campbell & the Color of Sound"(cont. jazz) - "Djmo Dkouyate & Mamaya African Jazz" - "The Jerry Gordon Trio"(smooth jazz/R&B), and independently with some other local artist in the area. Charles has also performed in workshops with the likes of Tito Puente, John Faddis, Nestor Torres, Louis Bellson & Pearl Bailey.
